Whats is your favorite thing when you to the park with your kids? Sitting on the bench and watching your kids play or just chit chatting with your friends. Isn't it? The idea sounds strange but just imagine, how interesting it will be if these benches have charging points for your cellphone and also provide a lot of additional information.
Soofa- The Smart Bench
Whatever I said in the above statement is very much true. A spin-off company, Changing Environments from the MIT Media Lab thinks benches should do a lot more than just sit around. The company has designed Smart benches, called "Soofas". These Soofas will now help people charge their phones via USB connectors in parks of Boston. Not only this, Smart benches are a lot more than simple chargers. Each bench also acts as a data hub as it collects information on noise levels and air quality. The best part is that, all this information will be available online, so before you leave for your favourite park you can check to see if it's sunny, cool, quiet, or loud.

The recent inventions like Local Warming, GoCam App and now these Smart Benches are truly amazing. The Smart Benches Project will begin in Boston soon and commenting on that the Boston's Mayor- Martin Walsh said "Your cellphone doesn't just make phone calls, why should our benches just be seats?" Starting next week, these benches will be providing services at a number of city parks, including Titus Sparrow Park in the South End, the Boston Common, and the Rose Kennedy Greenway.
