It was on August 14, 2009 that we went to Reckongpeo - small town in district Kinnaur of Himachal Pradesh! It was a memorable experience as we covered the journey on a two-wheeler - a bullet! I along with my then-colleague, Desh Deepak Sharma, decided to give ourselves a little break from hectic office schedule. We used to go places on weekend, but decided to really make it count that weekend.

Entry to Reckong Peo!

Desh came in early morning, picked me from a roadside in Pinjore, and we were off! Just to let you know the distance - Reckong Peo is around 350+ kilometers from Pinjore (my hometown), and we covered it all on the Enfield - The Raw Indian Mammoth! Everybody depends on a Bullet when it comes to covering long, swaying, upward distances!

Our first halt was at Shimla. We had our breakfast there in a small roadside restaurant. The temperature started dipping as soon as we crossed Solan, but August is pretty nice weather to approach the hillside. We were, of course, worried about reaching in time as we also wanted some rest once we were done with the journey, but it took us more than we anticipated. As soon as we entered the boundaries of Kinnaur, it was raining. It was all pleasant temperature-wise! Clouds were down, mountains were high, and Sutlej had been accompanying us from Rampur! It was all a great journey!

Drizzling continued and we managed to cross a thick, muddy stretch from Wangtoo to Kharcham, though with great difficulty. It was the weight of the motorcycle, Desh, and me that we were able to dig into the mud; else, the machine would have slipped anytime!

Finally, we reached in evening at comfortable time. First task was to look for an accommodation, which we knew was going to be quite cheap here! We zeroed down on a okay-types hotel that quoted INR 400 only for both of us for one night. Anyhow, we checked in, and we checked out of it, because we found another, better accommodation.

Our Accommodation in Reckong Peo! Had a Great View!
We enjoyed the remaining day going across the market drunk! It was a joyous journey. Our butts were paining.

Next day, it was August 15th and everything was closed. Thanks to the banners outside liquor shops that we purchased our quota the previous day! We went to see the Kalpa valley. It was on a higher altitude. We took some pictures there. Then, I had a little tuu-tuu-main-main with Desh, which ended a little later, because both of us knew that we had come together and had to go back together. We explored the place, clicked more photographs, and relaxed.

Just Posing!
It was a really nice trip to Reckong Peo! It's a great place to visit. Recommended.
